Greetings friends,
As other pieces of news demand our attention, the devastation in Türkiye and Syria remains. The extraordinary need for resources of all kinds continues, as does the need for prayer. Recovery and rebuilding will take years, while the political chaos and civil war in Syria and weakening democracy in Türkiye add to the burden of all those on the ground, all those affected in towns and cities throughout the affected areas.
Please continue to pray, and I offer this prayer, from Rev. Gaby Kobrossi at Bankstown Congregation:
“Almighty God, we pray for the people of Türkiye and Syria, for the victims, the injured, and all those affected by the devastating earthquake.
We pray for first-responders, and all those working tirelessly to rescue survivors from beneath the rubble. May God's peace sustain their efforts.
Empower our church to show radical love for our immediate neighbours who are grieving the loss of life, beauty, and peace in Syria and Turkey.
Let us not turn away, but help us be your hands and feet to love those who are suffering and bear witness to your presence with them. Amen”
Please, if you can, send money. Bankstown Congregation is sending money directly to those working directly in the crisis, especially churches with whom we have connection. Bankstown District Uniting Church is responding to provide immediate assistance through our network with churches in the region.
You can help us reach more people in need by responding with us today.
Please, give now to rush help to Türkiye and Syria.
